How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

Dental crowns are a popular solution for restoring damaged or decayed teeth. They not only improve the appearance of your smile but also provide strength and protection to the affected tooth. If you’re considering getting dental crowns in Glastonbury, CT, you may be wondering how long they will last. In this blog post, we will discuss the average lifespan of dental crowns, provide tips on how to take care of them, and help you understand when it’s time to replace a crown.

THE AVERAGE LIFESPAN OF A DENTAL CROWN

On average, dental crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. However, with proper care and maintenance, they can even last longer. The lifespan of a dental crown depends on various factors, including the material used, oral hygiene habits, and regular dental check-ups. Porcelain crowns tend to be more fragile and may require replacement sooner than metal or ceramic crowns.

TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR DENTAL CROWN

To ensure the longevity of your dental crown, it’s important to follow these tips:

  1. Practice good oral hygiene: Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily to keep your crown and natural teeth clean and free from plaque buildup.
  2. Avoid hard or sticky foods: Chewing on hard objects like ice or biting into sticky foods can damage your crown. Be cautious and opt for softer foods when possible.
  3. Wear a mouthguard: If you participate in sports or grind your teeth at night, wearing a mouthguard can protect your crown from potential damage.
  4. Regular dental check-ups: Visit your dentist in Glastonbury, CT, for regular check-ups and cleanings. They will monitor the condition of your crown and address any issues before they worsen.

HOW TO KNOW WHEN A CROWN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

Even with proper care, dental crowns may eventually need to be replaced. Here are some signs that indicate it’s time to visit your dentist for a crown replacement:

  1. Discoloration or chipping: If you notice any changes in the color or texture of your crown, it may indicate damage or wear.
  2. Sensitivity or pain: If you experience sensitivity or pain when biting down or consuming hot or cold foods, it could be a sign of a compromised crown.
  3. Loose crown: A loose crown can allow bacteria to enter the underlying tooth structure, leading to decay and discomfort.
  4. Recurring issues: If you find yourself frequently visiting the dentist to fix a crown-related problem, it may be more cost-effective to consider a replacement.

Had my cleaning done with Amanda who was incredibly thorough and such a pleasure to chat with. Had my cleaning done about 20 minutes after being shook by the little earthquake so my anxiety level was a little high. Amanda was gentle and very informative throughout the cleaning. She made me feel calm and relaxed in her care. Dr. Sinha then came in to check my X-rays and my teeth. I love that he takes his time and doesn’t rush through. He offers great explanation into his decision making process and I think he’s one the most honest dentists I have encountered. The energy in this practice is so positive and it was all around a great experience. They stay up to date with the newest advances in dental care and the office is super clean. I am happy to be a patient here. 💯 recommend to anyone who cares about their teeth and is looking for a great dentist. Thank you guys for being so awesome!❤️

I don’t have many dental experiences since I was a child usually I went with one place for a long period of time. I found this dentist a few years ago and I’ll honestly say, they’re fantastic. Everyone somewhere and someone have something to complain about but with them not one complaint. Please use them as your regular. You won’t be disappointed with your results.

I was in search of a new dentist after relocating to the area. Came across PS Dental and was very pleased with the overall service, quant office and service team. Amanda (hygienist) was very professional and her cleaning was painless. Morgan (front office) response time was beyond expectations and she was able to answer my many inquiries. 10/10 experience overall and I will be having my wife come over as a new patient hopefully soon!
